Richard Steele, Hall of Fame Boxing Referee & Don Me' Vue Las Vegas Events are working in conjunction to host the Second Annual Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds for the Richard Steele Health & Wellness Community Center for Boxing, Kick boxing and Martial Arts. The tournament will take place November 14, 2010 at Siena Golf Club, Las Vegas.
The goal of this fundraiser is to bring awareness to the centers success in helping at-risk youths. The Richard Steele Health and Wellness Community Center is funded in part by The Luz Community Development Coalition to help reduce the impact of substance abuse. However, with the decline in community funds, it is critically important to take strategic steps to help assure the continued success of the much needed programs.
One of their many successful programs is The Leadership and Resiliency Course. A SAPTA certified SAMHSA that engages youth in discussion questions, interactive games and character education. The lessons are designed to spark conversation, help youth engage in introspection and give them strategies for daily living. Some of the strategies taught are, problem solving, stress management, goal setting, conflict resolution, etc. All these are combined with a strong emphasis on character development.
Mr. Steele is traditionally known as a legend in the professional boxing arena. However, outside the ring, Richard Steele has also made a name for himself as a community conscious person. He opened up the Richard Steele Gym in North Las Vegas and serves as manager of sports and fitness programs. This modern establishment has 6,400 sq ft and provides fitness, boxing and computer skills to troubled youth in the Las Vegas area. The facility also has a job placement center, placing youths in productive, meaningful jobs. Richard Steele’s boxing team has traveled the world competing in amateur boxing exhibitions.
